Founder and Former President of Peaks Renewables and Son of Senator King Enters Democratic Primary
Portland, Maine – Today, Angus King III, a Maine businessman, renewable energy leader, and son of Independent Sen. Angus King, Jr., announced his campaign for governor.
“I’ve spent my life building and making things that really help people,” said Angus King III. “Now, I’m running for governor to build a better Maine – where it’s easier to start and grow a small business, where we can build our economy through innovation and hard work, and where it’s not so hard to afford the basic things you need to live and raise a family in the state we all love.”
Angus has spent the last three decades working on innovative ways to solve problems and make people’s lives better, building affordable housing for thousands of families across six states, and delivering hundreds of megawatts of clean wind and solar energy across the country and around the world. And here in Maine, as the founder and former president of Peaks Renewables, he built a renewable energy company in the heart of a gas utility. Its project in Clinton is heating thousands of Maine homes and businesses, lowering emissions, and putting people to work every day – all without increasing costs for Mainers.
Now, Angus is running for governor to bring costs down for every family struggling to make it, build more housing so families have a place to call home, help small businesses create good jobs that put more money in your pocket, and build an economy that runs on hard work, innovation, and Maine common sense. He’ll always fight for what’s right for Mainers, no matter who or what tries to stand in the way – in Maine, in Washington, or anywhere else.
“Ever since the day we met in Skowhegan, I’ve known Angus has something special. He’s always been hard-working, smart, engaged, and caring, and I’m so proud of who he is today
and the work he’s set out to do,” said Sen. King. “He’s a builder and an optimist who knows Maine and doesn’t quit until the job is done. He’s been building things to take care of people and make the world a better place throughout his life, and I think his combination of smarts, experience, and character will make him an excellent governor of Maine. In fact, I’m sure he’ll be in the top two governors named Angus ever.”
Angus was born in Skowhegan and now lives in Portland with his wife, two children, and Snowy the dog. They spend as much time as possible enjoying Maine’s woods, waters, and outdoors, including hunting, hiking, and fishing. Watch his announcement video here.
