Why I’m Running

Building a Better Maine: How We Get There Together

I’m running because life has become too hard for too many, and our politics often feels too broken to help make a difference. Division has overwhelmed direction, leaving Mainers behind and wondering why it’s so hard to get anything done. At the same time, life has become too expensive for too many here—housing, energy, healthcare—and wages simply haven’t kept up. I know we can do better.

I haven’t spent my life in Augusta debating policy or drafting reports, I’ve spent it shaping the real world, building things that solve problems and help people, taking on the real challenges our state faces today. And I’ve done it all by bringing people together, innovating, knowing how to get things done, and being accountable for the dollars and results. That’s not the ordinary path, but this isn’t an ordinary moment, and we need to think differently to get things back on track.

I’m excited for what’s ahead, and how we can build a better Maine together. As Governor I’ll have a relentless focus on helping people breathe a little easier, starting with energy, housing, healthcare, education, and economic development. I know it can be done if we focus on the challenges, aspirations, and hopes we have in common, not on the issues that are designed to divide.

In four years, we’ll bring costs down and build a better, stronger Maine:

  • More housing will be more affordable for young families, new Mainers, retirees, and everyone in between.
  • We’ll start to bring our energy costs under control, and put our system on a path that is cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable every day.
  • More kids will be prepared for the jobs of today and tomorrow—with training, college or a job in hand when they graduate.
  • It will be easier to create jobs, with government responsive when you need it, and not in the way when you don’t.
  • We’ll have a healthcare system that is more stable, accessible, and affordable.

I’m looking forward to continued listening and dialogue with folks across our state on how we tackle these challenges together. The ideas below are based on many conversations and will continue to evolve as we move the campaign forward.
