Portland, Maine – Angus King III today released the following statement in response to the passage of the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.”
“Today, Republicans in Washington passed a bill that will have devastating consequences across Maine. It risks closing some of our rural hospitals and will force nursing homes to cut beds. It means tens of thousands of Mainers will lose the healthcare they depend on every day. It will hurt jobs, increase costs, and it borrows trillions of dollars from our kids just to hand it over to the wealthiest. I’d say that I’m shocked, but this is what today’s politics have brought us. We have to do things a different way.
“Washington has left us in the lurch. Our next governor will need to work with governors around the country, state leaders, hospitals, and businesses to come together to do what’s right for the people who will be hurt so badly by this bill. As governor, I will always work to bring people together to do what’s best for Maine.”
